This is the First in a Series of Machine Embroidery Designs + Punch Needle Embroidery |

|
Coneflower Impressions are a combination of Machine Embroidery and Punch Needle Embroidery. The sculptured dome of the conehead is created using a special adjustable punch needle. Punch embroidery has been around for many years. Punch embroidery is amazingly fast and easy to do. Most of the punch embroidery done to date involves punching a design including the background. Totally punching a project like this creates a nice dense rug like project. Recent changes in punch needles allows for easy contouring of designs. This allows for just portions of the designs to be punched so they blend with the background fabric. This freedom shows off the texture and sculpture of the punched areas. A wide variety of floss, ribbons, and specialty threads can be used for punch embroidery that cannot be used in the needle for machine embroidery. Combining the two techniques greatly enhances the design beyond what each technique is capable of doing on its own. Use up your scraps of embroidery floss, ribbons, and specialty threads punching the coneheads of these flowers. |
